Lundqvist Wants 50 Shutouts

ShareThis
Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves for his first shutout this season, and 25th of his career. He got a little bit of help from the goal post late in the third period, when Mikhail Grabovski slipped the puck between Lundqvist's legs, and a lot of help from the players in front of him - the Rangers blocked 35 shots.

"When I reach 50, I'm happy," Lundqvist said of his shutout total. "Twenty-five is still a low number. It's always fun to have a shutout. It's a good feeling to accomplish something like that with the guys here. They played a big part of it."

  1. I think he's taking on a little much.

He was stellar last night, but can't expect that all the time.

  2. I don't agree, I think high goals and ambitions are part of what makes him so good. Of course we can't just expect him to actually get to fifty, but he wants to be the best and 49 is the best so far. He shouldn't be satisfied with less than that, I like that drive of him to be the absolute best. Even if it crushes him too much when he loses, I do admire how he expects himself to be that good every night.

  3. 1. Ambitions are good

HOWEVER - We want him in the best shape if make to playoffs in Spring. We don;t want to over play him.

He was amazing the other night, he always does his best no question.

But we need our Top goalie in the best shape.

  4. @ Kat... Henrik meant he wants at least 50 shutouts in his entire career, not this season. Currently, the Rangers record for most shutouts as a Ranger is 49, so basically he wants that record. I see him eventually surpassing it. I really think one day he will own every Rangers goaltending record.

@Anna.. I do love his high ambitions. I agree that he should never lose that attitude. To be the best at anything, you can never be satisfied. We know he has the talent to do it, as long as he keeps that attitude and stays healthy he will go down as the greatest Rangers goalie ever.
