Henrik Lundqvist Added New Additions to The Crown Collection

ShareThis
I attended the Rangers home opener on Sunday night. Here are some new additions to the Crown Collection I saw in the team store:

<

Here's the official press release on the new additions:

Today New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist unveiled new additions to the highly popular Crown Collection, a selection of apparel he designed where a portion of all proceeds benefit the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Lundqvist is the Foundation’s spokesperson, and has raised thousands of dollars and spent countless hours mentoring and inspiring Garden of Dreams children. In 2012, Lundqvist was given the Garden of Dreams Hero Award, honoring him for his commitment to the Foundation, and his active, on-going dedication to children facing obstacles.

New Crown Collection pieces for this season include a signature fitted jacket, hooded sweatshirt, a new fitted cap style, a knit scarf, as well as select novelty items all featuring the exclusive logo of a crown with Lundqvist’s number 30 in the center. These items will be complimented by the classic t-shirt and hat that debuted last season. The Crown Collection is sold exclusively at retail stores at Madison Square Garden. A portion of all proceeds benefit Garden of Dreams.

“After the success of last year’s Crown Collection I couldn’t be more excited for fans to see the new pieces this season,” said Lundqvist. "It was such a great way to connect with fans as well as raise money for The Garden of Dreams Foundation. The amazing work that Garden of Dreams does for underprivileged kids is so important to me, I’m really proud that Crown Collection can contribute to such a great cause."

The Garden of Dreams Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that works with The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) to positively impact the lives of children facing obstacles. Through ongoing programs that use the magic of MSG – including the Knicks, the Rangers, the Liberty, MSG Entertainment, MSG Networks and Fuse – the Foundation develops strong, long-term relationships that truly change lives. Since its inception in September 2006, Garden of Dreams has created thousands of once-in-a-lifetime experiences that have brought joy and happiness to more than 225,000 children and their families, including those facing homelessness, extreme poverty, illness and foster care. Sorry about the poor lighting in the pictures. They were taken on my iPhone and the lighting situation at MSG is pretty bad as well. What do you think about the new Crown Collection additions? I personally was hoping the Crown Collection hoodie would have the crown logo on the front of it, and in color. Instead the crown is on the back of the hoodie and it's completely black.

How Henrik Lundqvist Spent the Lockout; Plus New Photo of Charlise

HENRIK LUNDQVIST, GOALIE

Daddy-daughter time

Before the lockout became a reality, the Swedish goalie was already undergoing a life change. He and wife Therese welcomed their first child in July — daughter Charlise.

“It was definitely an adjustment for me the first couple of weeks. Then after a couple of months, you start getting used to the new routine,” says Lundqvist, 30, who took his new family back to Gothenburg, Sweden, in October.

“That’s the only good thing about this lockout. I had the opportunity to spend time with family, and I know they appreciated [spending time with Charlise],” says Lundqvist. “She’s a happy baby and hardly screams. My mom keeps telling me that we’ve been lucky.”

Lundqvist says his little lady lights up when she sees their Doberman, Nova. “She laughs hysterically when she sees the dog.”

The Lundqvists flew back just before the lockout ended Jan. 5. When word of a deal spread, the team didn’t pop the Champagne. The goalie immediately rallied a group to head to the team’s Tarrytown rink. “Our celebration was skating with a purpose.”

Indeed, all seems right with the world for The King. Both at work — and most definitely at home. “I enjoy [Charlise] more and more each week. I look forward to the connection we’re going to have,” he says. “I like the idea of daddy’s little girl.”

Henrik Lundqvist Says Charlise is a "Happy kid"

ShareThis

The day has come. Whoever Henrik Lundqvist hoped already in september Well in december he was tired of hoping that the NHL lockout would be blown off. "I was really down for a while. It was the day I went and was ... yes, very quiet, "says hockey star said.

Lockout-journey has been an emotional roller-coaster for most players in the NHL. Those who did not come to work because of the contract dispute with the owners that began last summer.

But anyone who encountered a disappointed and restless Henrik Lundqvist know his feelings in particular is about to move forward, move on, win.

Stand still? Absolutely not.

- It was incredibly frustrating. I can not just snap your fingers and decide to "Now I feel good," when I do not. This is also when I play. Is it bad I feel worse, but that's fine and we win, I feel its best.

- They tried not to think about it but it reminded all the time and was disappointed.

Getting skating on the ice in conjunction with teammates in the New York Rangers in the weeks that went was in a sense a victory.

And Lundqvist glow accordingly.

Praised as this year's goalie last year, after a Rangers Season own fans not seen the likes of since the Stanley Cup victory in 1994, there are high hopes for the season 2012-2013.

One wonders of course if the Rangers, a team on the rise, affected more than others by the lockout?

- It remains to be seen whether we can deliver and stand up to the expectations. We have a good enough team to win this year, absolutely. We have got a couple of new players who are really sharp - Rick Nash is understood that stand out, but it's not just him.

What is all this? Some that are not recovered after Christmas buffets?

- Some are more fit than others of course ... but I think everyone seems to have done well. All knew that it could go fast, so you had to keep running all the time.

How did you do yourself?

- I trained on ice at home in Gothenburg at least three days a week. I had indeed just a shooter, my old goalie coach. So I have a lot of pucks at me, but the timing is such that I have to train in now. It will probably take a few matches.

- That there are no friendlies will probably be felt. It is usually supposed to look a little different at first. Hawaii hockey with games that are a bit helter-skelter.

And for you?

- I have to be patient in the beginning. I will not be one hundred percent, it would be strange if I was.

You have just become a father, the job must lockout has given you more time?

- Yes, if you're going to see something positive with it is that I got to be a lot with my daughter (Charlise, 6 months) the first time. She is a happy kid. Smiles every morning and now she begins to become more as a person. It grows on one, the whole thing. You get so much stronger bonds for each day that passes.

York?

No word on the exact date of the launch, but if I had to guess, it would be the first day of the season. It's a really awesome, well put together video, so if you didn't see it then, I suggest you check it out now. Also, how cool is it to see his logo in the corner of the videos? I can't wait for him to launch some new Crown Collection apparel!

Henrik Lundqvist Welcomed Rick Nash to New York With a Toast

ShareThis

When Rick Nash arrived in Manhattan in July following completion of the trade from Columbus, he and his girlfriend were invited to Henrik Lundqvist’s apartment, where the Rangers goaltender and his wife toasted the new arrivals with champagne.

“I wouldn’t make anything special out of that, it was just that I was around, I knew he was looking for a place to live, and I just wanted to do what I could to make him as comfortable as he could be coming to a new city,” Lundqvist said. “I know I was excited that we made the trade for him, so whatever I can do as a teammate, of course I’m going to be anxious to do that.”

Lundqvist was hardly the lone Ranger to reach out to Nash. There was dinner with Brad Richards, calls from new teammates and from others inside the organization.

“As a player, it can be the little things that define an organization, and those were the things people were doing for me the first couple of days after I got here,” Nash said. “They show you that they care about you.

“You hear about it all the time, and now I see for myself that this is a first-class, world-class organization.”

I even thought about starting a Twitter campaign to make it happen.  Well, I didn't have to, because he made it to the show anyway! Too bad it was so quick, though. It was still an awesome sight to see him get some national attention. Hopefully, he can come back as a guest next time!

Henrik Lundqvist Fan Sighting

ShareThis

Yesterday I received the following email from Matt, a fan who considers Henrik to be his hero. Matt was lucky enough to randomly meet Henrik on the streets of Manhattan. He sent me the above picture and this email explaining that he didn't get a chance to thank Henrik for helping his family get through a tough situation. Here is his story, hopefully Henrik will get to see it somehow.

I'm a good friend of of Mike Richter, and he will always be my mentor as he is the man who introduced me to the game that changed my life forever. Being a child of an immigrant father, from Costa Rica, and an immigrant mother, from Trinidad and Tobago, I would have never thought that hockey would have such a tremendous impact on my life. When Henrik came to the big apple back in 2005, the season following the much dreaded lockout, I immediately became a fan. I was only 9 at the time, and watching the way Henrik carried himself on and off the ice; he immediately became my biggest idol and inspiration. My father's superintendent job is the reason why I met and became good friends with the Richter family. My fathers job is the reason why I had the privilege of growing up on the Upper West side of manhattan, and the ultimate reason as to why I'm playing hockey. Now a few years later, during my senior year of high school, I finally met my hero, Henrik Lundqvist! Although he doesn't know it, Henrik's presence and dominance in the garden helped my father survive a stroke he suddenly suffered last Spring. My dad, along with the rest of the family was going through a very tough time, yet watching Henrik tend the pipes for the rangers, even from his hospital bed, always puts a smile on his face! I had to withdraw from this hockey season as financially, after my father's stroke, we could not afford a junior hockey season, ending my dreams of playing college hockey, but having the NHL back means Henrik will be leading the blue shirts this season, and that is what fills the hole in my heart from the sudden absence of the sport in my life. Meeting Henrik today revived my dream, as it reminded me how much I love the sport. I didn't get to tell him all this, but thanks Henrik for being my biggest inspiration, my idol, and my hero. And thanks for helping my father and my family make it through a tough time. You really are a hero. Best of luck this season Hank!
Best wishes,
Matt Almengor

Lundqvist Amped For Run at Cup

ShareThis

By BRETT CYRGALIS

On the anniversary of Elvis’ birthday, The King went back to work.

Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers’ reigning Vezina Trophy winner as the league’s best goaltender, was back in net with a large contingent of 16 teammates shooting on him yesterday at the MSG Training Facility in Westchester.

With the start of the NHL season seemingly right around the corner, the goalie with the regal nickname was as excited as he has been in some time.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, to get out there and start getting ready,” Lundqvist said after the players-organized skate. “The feelings and the emotions you have, all your strength to come back now — I get a little anxious, nervous, excited, so it’s definitely a good feeling.”

As a matter of fact, Lundqvist was so amped up about the agreement in principle between the league and the Players’ Association that came together early Sunday morning, he wasted little time reaching out to teammates to organize workouts.

With union head Don Fehr and commissioner Gary Bettman meeting the media around 5 a.m. Sunday, Lundqvist sent a group text message at 6:49 a.m. to about 10 players who were in the New York area, telling them to get to the rink so they can work out.

Only Michael Del Zotto and Steve Eminger showed up to shoot on Lundqvist, but his legendary intensity has not subsided during the four-month hiatus.

“He’s really hungry,” Del Zotto said. “You could tell coming in.”

The taste left in Lundqvist’s mouth from last season’s loss to the Devils in the Eastern Conference finals is not bitter, but inspiring. In his seven years in the league, the 30-year-old Lundqvist never had made it past the conference semifinals, and after being as close as he was to the ultimate goal of the Stanley Cup just this past May, the competitive flame has only been stoked.

“In the locker room, guys in here, we always expect good performance,” Lundqvist said. “At the same time, we need to stay humble, and I think it’s going to be important how we handle that pressure, the pressure we put on ourselves and the pressure from the outside.”

With the shortened, 48-game schedule, expected to start on Jan. 19, Lundqvist said he will sit with goaltending coach Beniot Allaire and head coach John Tortorella to figure out a reasonable schedule of how many games he will play. After cutting back his workload a little last season, he was fresher down the stretch and into the postseason.

“Sometimes when you struggle or you try to come back from a long break, you try too hard to reach your level instead of just doing your basic stuff like you always do,” Lundqvist said. “It will come, but we don’t have too much time.”
