Henrik Lundqvist Won't Change The Size of His Pads For The Olympics
Before the season was crimped mÄlvaktsbenskydden in the NHL. The Olympics are permitted a larger version - but Henrik Lundqvist still choose to play with NHL dimensions . "I will maintain the same length , there is not time to change again ," he says .
To increase mÄlproduktionen in the NHL was reduced height of mÄlvaktsbenskydden by ten percent for the season.
Dimensions are individualized and determined by the size of the net. For Lundqvist's part , his protection fell by 3.5-4 centimeters.
It felt a little less at first, but after a few weeks started to get used to, he says.
What 's the big difference ?
- It is when you go down with your legs sideways , you cover not as good against the posts. You cover a little less in some situations , but at the same time , it is easier to move, says NY Rangers star .
To the OS , it will be allowed greater protection because the International Ice Hockey Federation has no maximum limit for how high they may be. But Lundqvist continue driving the same size as in the NHL.
- Too much jox . You do not want that time to get used to the back , then it's easier to run on only .
So you 'll have less leg protection than some other goalies ?
- Yes , but most plays over here and they will probably also run the same . I do not think anyone is going to trade up for the week . Then you need to train you in while playing over here and there's no time , says Lundqvist parallel to the matches trained with their Olympic shin pads - yellow , blue and white - for a time .
It's been a strange and uneven season for Henrik Lundqvist with deep depressions and high peaks . But the 31 -year-old has struggled through motigheterna , revving up and found the OS form properly in the past month . Lundqvist has nine wins in their last 13 matches and in these a save percentage of 93.1 .
The club has never lost confidence and in December, the star wrote a seven-year contract extension worth an average of gigantic SEK 55 million per season.
Lundqvist makes his third Olympics, was one of the great heroes gold in Turin and had Sochi in mind, basically throughout the season.
- As soon as you read or hear something , you start thinking for yourself on what to expect and how it was the last. There are a lot of expectations , it is there and germinate in mind , he says.
Does it feel like you have a better location than later now that it is in Europe?
- I think we 've had a chance to win the last few times , it's so little that makes it to succeed. This applies to the line at the right time . The Russians will be very Tagged at home , they have an extremely good team. One should perhaps see them as favorites , but I think we also have a strong team .

Henrik Lundqvist NHL Live Video Interview
Watch the opening sequence of this video very closely. It contains some of Henrik's career highlights. Around the 0:19 mark you'll see a very cool moment that I don't think a lot of people may remember. Partly because it happened during Henrik's rookie year and partly because it's not on YouTube. What I'm talking about is when the fans at the Garden started to chant HEN-RIK HEN-RIK for the very first time. Henrik did something I had never ever seen a hockey player do, and I'd been watching hockey for years at that point. He actually acknowledged the fans by waving to them during the game. I've been searching for footage of this moment for years and could never find it. I always wanted to post it to the blog since I always thought it was such a cool gesture on Henrik's part, so thank you to NHL Network for digging it out.

Henrik Lundqvist Askmen.com Interview
New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is a Vezina Trophy winner, a three-time All-Star and an Olympic gold medalist. In just a few weeks, he’ll be looking to add to his collection as he leads Team Sweden on their quest to medal in men’s hockey at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
On the ice, Lundqvist stands out for his stellar play, and he’s undoubtedly one of the best goaltenders of this generation. Off the ice, Lundqvist has become a style icon for his impeccable fashion. We caught up with one of the best-dressed men in the NHL to get some tips:
Your style is constantly evolving. What have you learned about fashion in the last 6 months to a year?
I want to say that my style has been pretty consistent. It hasn’t changed over the last five or six years. I had a period in my life where it changed every four or five months. It was a lot of weird looks — even bad ones, I want to say — but I guess you learn from your mistakes. As I got older, I found my style. I found what I like to wear, I feel comfortable in it. Nowadays I don’t really change much, so I don’t know if I’ve learned anything — I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.
You dress very classy and composed, but it seems like a modern-day trend is the hipster look. What’s your opinion of it?
Well, can you explain to me the typical hipster look just so we’re on the same page. What does the hipster look mean for you?
Kind of the “I did my hair but I don’t want you to know that I did my hair,” retro clothing, thick-framed/nerdy-type glasses and sometime the glasses are fake with non-prescription lenses. And plaid seems to be in fashion among hipsters, fading jeans… that type of thing.
I get what you said. The key for hipsters is that they usually try really hard but the important thing is they want to come across like they don’t try. To make it look effortless. I don’t mind. It really fits New York, the hipster look. I love that about New York: You just dress the way you want to dress and feel really comfortable because nobody is judging. You can just be yourself and it’s perfectly normal.
Which of your teammates on the Rangers would you say is most in need of fashion advice?
I’m not going to name names but there’s one guy that I keep coming back to because his shirts were just awful. He gave me heat for my skinny ties and my tight suits, but thinking back to his shirts, they were not very pretty looking.
What’s your favorite watch?
I have two watches that I really like wearing right now. One is a Hublot and one is an IWC. They work really well on an off-day when I’m not dressed up, but also work really well with the suits that I wear five days a week. I like watches like that, watches that can be used for both looks.
You’ve mentioned in the past that you’ve made — and learned from — a number of your fashion mistakes. What are some common fashion mistakes that you see these days?
It really comes down to fit. When it comes to a suit, for example, it’s important that the shoulders fit you well, the length of the pants are important. That kind of shows me right away if you’re into it or if you don’t care. If they get the shoulders right, you know that they have some sort of interest in getting a good look.
Other than those points there, do you have any advice for buying a suit?
For me, it’s not about getting the right brand. It’s about getting a suit and then… you always have to touch it up. It doesn’t matter what brand you buy. For the most part, I always take it to a person here in the city to get the adjustment so that it fits exactly the way I want. Don’t focus too much on the perfect brand, because it’s more about getting the perfect fit.
Could you talk about your relationship with Advil?
I teamed up with Advil a couple of months ago and we actually just finished shooting a great commercial a couple of weeks ago. One of the reasons I teamed up with them is because speed is important to me as an NHL goalie and fast-acting Advil definitely helps me recover fast, too.
We do a feature where we ask men all over the world to vote on the Top 99 most desirable women in the world. You’ve got a trained eye for the matter, so I’m wondering who you would say are some of the more stylish female celebrities who stand out in Hollywood or otherwise?
I think Jennifer Lawrence seems to really get it right when she’s on the red carpet. So maybe I’ll vote for her. She’s had a number of good movies lately and every time you see a picture of her on the red carpet you, she looks like she knows what she’s doing.
Hope you and the Rangers win the Stanley Cup this year — I know that would mean a lot to you — and good luck to you in Sochi.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate that.

Henrik Lundqvist Men's Fitness Interview
There was a time when athletic clothing and looking sharp were mutually exclusive. Thankfully, we’ve evolved beyond that. The good news for fashion-conscious guys is that cutting haute couture with a dash of athletic wear has never been more on trend. Just look at Henrik Lundqvist, the NY Rangers’ star goalie who’ll play for Sweden at this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi. Now a household name at Milan Fashion Week, Lundqvist also plays guitar in his band, The Noise Upstairs, and he’s become a master of dressing to express all the sides of his personality. We caught up with the Best Dressed Man in Sweden to find out how you can do the same.
How did you find your personal style?
There was a time in my life when I tried a lot of different things, different looks. Between the ages of 17 and 22 there were a lot of bad looks. But I guess you learn from your mistakes. After that I kind of found my style and what I like to wear.
What does every guy’s wardrobe need?
It really depends on your style and what you feel comfortable in. For me, what takes up most of the space in my closet are suits. I wear a lot of suits and jackets. But I think every man needs a black suit at home. You can never go wrong in a black suit. But in terms of style, I think it’s about being comfortable in what you wear.
What’s the key to finding a great suit?
Find a jacket that fits your shoulders really well, and then after that you can do all the tricks. You can take it to a tailor. There are not a lot of brands that will fit right away. For me, it’s a lot about fit—more than the actual brand. There are so many good brands out there, but it comes down to the last touch.
Do you have a go-to casual style?
A lot of leather jackets, T-shirts, and jeans. I like that rock ‘n’ roll look. Sometimes I tend to like it more than a suit on an off-day. I love playing music, so I think the whole John Varvatos look is kind of cool. I think he has a great style.
What will you be rocking in the Olympic Village in Sochi?
During the Olympics they’re really strict about what you’re allowed to wear. You get a lot of clothes, but everything is pre-ordered. We had a fitting over the summer. You’re not allowed to wear your own clothes. No logos, nothing. You get fined if you wear something you’re not supposed to wear.
They’re stifling you!
Each Olympics every country has a new partner designing the clothes. Hopefully Sweden will come out with a good look. You never know. Obviously, with the blue and yellow in the flag, there’s going to be a lot of blue and yellow in the clothes, so it’s not something I’ll wear a lot afterward. But sometimes they will mix in a lot of black or white.

Read Some More of Henrik Lundqvist's Olympic Diary
It is black and white. You're the hero or the scapegoat . The goalkeeper has a special role in all team sports. He is more exposed . Is it good for the team have often the goalie a big part in the success , but it goes bad , it is also he who is questioned. There is little the charm actually . It is black and white. You're the hero or the scapegoat . Sometimes I like it , take a lot of responsibility and feel that much of the outcome depends on my performance . Sometimes I just sit on the bench in the booth and talk shit with the old men , which they can do. As a goalkeeper you have to have your eyes on the puck almost all the time and there are few opportunities to relax during the matches. It can of course be stressful but it's also where the challenge lies . OS are short and intense and minimizing mistakes becomes even more important. Yet another challenge to look forward to . Talk to you soon . / Henrik
I have worked with mental images for many years. Before every game I always go through different potential game situations in his head. I can see in front of me how I save a slap shot with plocken and I'm fast in a sideways movement and saves a return. I can imagine a neutral as I ward with leg guard and we win the game. Mental training in this way is about to program and prepare the brain for upcoming events , and I feel more comfortable if I have gone through different scenarios in my head before I go out on the ice. I also work sometimes with mental images when I rest in the afternoon, and there is research showing that you can get better at what you do just by visualizing positive turn of events in this way . It works at least for me and I know many other goalies works in a similar way . Talk to you soon . / Henrik
Grind , grind , grind ... Which goalie hockey training is very much about technology and to wear in different movement patterns on the ice. It'll just sit in muscle memory, and when it goes fast , I must be able to react instinctively . Responsiveness is one of the cornerstones of the goalkeeper the game, and although some are innately so I have to train in order to maintain and improve such a property. I run about the same exercises every day with my goalie coach and it is very much about wear , wear , wear . Until it sits . If you have not already done so: test your reaction in the Samsung Galaxy Team app , and compare your results with mine. Good Luck! / Henrik
Roger Federer I admire very much. It's important to have role models and when I was younger , I had several hockey idols. Today, there are obviously players that I admire, but when you yourself plays in the NHL can be a bit difficult to have teammates and opponents as role models. I think , however, that one can learn a lot of athletes involved in other sports and myself , I think Roger Federer is a good example of it . Besides , he 's a great tennis player , I think his way of being off the track is admirable, and I think you can learn a lot from him when it comes to , for example, handle pressure . He really is a super professional in every way and in addition , he is a humble and nice guy that I got the chance to meet a few times. I hope he does not put the tennis racket on the shelf for a while . / Henrik
I had a couple of lucky shoes but they went on some cods . In the NHL , we play a lot of matches and through the years I've managed to create several habits and routines that I follow more or less consciously before each match . In the dressing room minutes before face-off , I follow almost a ritual : three minutes before we go out on the ice I put on plocken , two minutes before going on the shock and when a minute remaining , I gather myself and think about the game and what to do . How do I do before every game . Then it has the outward stuff too. A couple of years ago I had a pair of shoes which I thought brought me luck , but the luck I wanted the wastage so I just used the pair at particularly important matches . Then they went on a couple of cods and then lost the magic bit ... I 'll see if I have time to record a new pair of lucky shoes for the Olympics. Hopefully I have all the same to me a couple home from there. Have a great day . / Henrik
In the summer I play a lot of tennis. Like any elite athlete , I'm basically never entirely free from training. Even off-season , when you have a little vacation and not practicing with the team, you have to be sure to keep going. I have run about the same programs in eight nine years and I know my body pretty well now . In summer it is almost only strength training that apply and the gym will be obviously very focused on the legs , especially running and cycling . In recent years, I actually started playing tennis very well, I think it is good way to train speed and mobility . Fitness into the bargain , and it's funny does not hurt either . Here in New York , I usually play with teammates, often Dominic Moore. He is sharp . I generally think that it is good with an all-round training as long as you know that you get what you want, and with the tennis I feel I really push myself physically. It works for me quite easily. Tip: dare to think a little outside the box when you add up your physical training . Variety is good for several reasons, but mainly , I think the workout feel easier if you have fun while you do it. Have a great day . / Henrik

Watch Out NHL — Henrik Lundqvist Is Back With A Vengeance
By Sean Hartnett
Two Olympian netminders proceeded to put on a spectacle for all in attendance at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. For 54 minutes, Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers and Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings dared one another to top the other’s spellbinding, highlight-reel saves.
It was the hockey equivalent of two starting pitchers both determined to go the distance to earn a shutout. Howard finally cracked in the top of the ninth, before Lundqvist put a bow on the 48th shutout of his career.
“It was a tight game,” Rangers alternate captain Marc Staal said. “He was playing well, but Hankie was better.”
Lundqvist has recorded sparkling statistics in his past five games. “King Henrik” is 4-1-0 with a 1.40 goals-against average and .957 save percentage over the Rangers’ recent stretch that began with a belief-inspiring victory over the Blackhawks in Chicago.
The sensational Swede is 6-2-1 with a 2.08 GAA and .935 save percentage in his last nine appearances.
Any thought of Lundqvist having a rare “off-year” was buried at the United Center on January 8.
Right now, Lundqvist is 16-17-3 overall with a 2.58 GAA through 37 games in 2013-14. Expect his win totals and save percentage to trend upward and his goals-against average to even out somewhere close to his 2.27 career average.
LUNDQVIST IS LETTING HIS NATURAL ABILITIES TAKE OVER
The biggest difference in Lundqvist’s turnaround is that he’s not trying to do too much. Perhaps the burden of signing a lucrative seven-year, $59.5 million extension was forcing Lundqvist to overcompensate.
Throughout Thursday’s 38-save shutout performance, Lundqvist’s positioning was very sound. His movements were natural. He was allowing his abilities and instincts to take over.
“I’m more patient,” Lundqvist said. “When I’m more patient, then I stop more pucks. So, it’s going in the right direction.”
No save was more vital that when Lundqvist reached out with his glove to ensure a rolling puck didn’t cross his goal line with 44.3 seconds remaining in regulation. It’s not pointed out enough that goalies sometimes use their hearing to determine where a puck is going when they lose sight of the rubber biscuit.
Lundqvist did not hear the familiar ping of the post. So he knew the puck was somewhere behind him.
“You kind of wait for a reaction when you hear it hits the post, but then you don’t get a reaction so you know it’s behind you somewhere,” Lundqvist said. “So, you don’t want to make too big of a move. I just turned around and it was right there. It’s fun when you get some puck luck, and maybe I earned it after a few tough bounces.”
His counterpart, Howard, was forced into making a remarkable 47 saves. While the Rangers pinned the Red Wings in their own zone and unloaded a barrage of second-period shots, the Blueshirts suffered the occasional breakdown. The determined Lundqvist stood tall.

Henrik Lundqvist Post-Game Video Interview
Henrik Lundqvist turned aside all 38 shots faced to post his third shutout of the season and 48th of his career. He improves his record to 16-17-3 overall, including an 8-10-3 mark at home this season. It is the ninth time he has registered 30 or more saves in a game this season, and is now 6-2-1 with a 2.53 goals against average, .933 save percentage, and one shutout in those contests. Lundqvist is now one shutout shy of Ed Giacomin’s franchise record, 49 career shutouts as a Ranger.

Henrik Lundqvist To Design, Endorse, and Model Bread & Boxers Underwear
I know there are many guys out there who wish they could be in Henrik Lundqvist's shoes.
Well, pretty soon you can be in his underwear- close enough? Check it out:
"I always wanted to be involved in building a brand, but the right opportunity hadn’t presented itself until now,' Lundqvist told WWD. "The line is beautiful and comfortable — essential, really — which is what attracted me to Bread & Boxers. I wore the products and loved them. It’s that simple. [It's] styled with a clean, Swedish aesthetic, so the pieces are perfect for me whether I’m traveling city-to-city for hockey, or just enjoying my time in New York City. Sport and style are both important aspects of my lifestyle.”
Lundqvist will collaborate with the brand’s owners Alexander Palmgren and Henrik Lindahl on a seasonal basis to create capsule collections and special editions. He will also appear as the face of the brand in visual imagery for advertising and marketing campaigns and on select packaging for a series of “Lundqvist’s Favorites.”

Lundqvist Rewarded For His Loyalty To The New York Rangers
Here's an article from the folks at Fan Duel:
Lundqvist Rewarded For His Loyalty To The New York Rangers
The 2013-2014 season has not been one to remember so far for Henrik Lundqvist, but the New York Rangers still decided to reward their long-time goaltender with a seven-year extension worth $59.5 million. Some have criticized the deal, but Lundqvist has always been a professional and leader for the Blueshirts. In fact, his loyalty to the franchise is a major reason why he was rewarded with such a lucrative extension.
It is rare to see a player in professional sports stay with the same franchise their entire career. Now that Lundqvist has signed a seven-year extension at age 31, he will likely retire with the team. Even though Cam Talbot has put a lot of pressure on the veteran, Lundqvist is still thought of highly within the organization.
The former Vezina Trophy winner might be off to a slow start, but the track record for him is something that is hard to argue with. Fantasy hockey owners have enjoyed outstanding numbers from him year after year. Just because his goals against average and save percentage is at an all-time low isn’t that major of a concern either. It is still less than halfway through a single season, and the New York Rangers haven’t provided a lot of help for him so far this season. At age 31, he isn’t THAT old yet, and he can certainly get back to his prime numbers.
One knock on Lundqvist, and the New York Rangers in general, is that they have not been all that competitive in recent years. They won a division championship in 2011-2012, but they haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1994. Some wonder if the extension for Lundqvist could hurt them financially going forward, but he isn’t making an absurd amount of money going forward.
At the end of the day, this is a move that the New York Rangers should have made. He hasn’t been good since signing the deal, but he has enough history to turn things around. His loyalty to the franchise should pay off down the line once he gets out of his funk.
