Post-Game Notes & Reaction
•Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots in net for the Rangers and is now 9-9-1 on the season. Lundqvist has posted a career record of 17-13-4 in 34 career regular season appearances vs. the Penguins.
From Rangers Report:
Henrik Lundqvist:
On Crosby’s slew-foot.
“I didn’t see it, so I can’t really comment on it. He gets a lot of attention and he's a great player. So as long as he can take some hits, too, it’s fine. It’s hockey. It will be a couple of things here and there that he might think are rough. Like I said, I didn’t see it so I can’t comment on it.”
On the heavy November schedule.
“It’s been busy. We were hoping to finish strong here with a good win, but they were good.”
“It’s the last game of the month, we want to finish strong, it was a great challenge for us. I don’t know if we approached it differently. It was not hard to get ready, I think. You play one of the best teams in the league and we had an emotional game last time we played them, so everybody’s ready to go.”
On whether a game like this changes his view of his team.
“I feel really good about this team, about how the guys show up every night. We work for each other and stand up for each other and I think everybody feels the same way. We’ve had some good road trips where we spend a little more time together and that’s great, too, I think. It’s been a busy month, but we’ve done a pretty good job. It’s been a lot of hockey. I feel good about this team.”
New Henrik Lundqvist Swedish Video Interview With Tour of Tiny's Restaurant
This looks like a really interesting Swedish video of Henrik giving a tour of his and Sean Avery's still unfinished Tribeca restaurant, Tiny' s. We also get to see Henrik drive away in his Lambo. Many people are anticipating the opening of Tiny's and so far very little info about it has surfaced. Hopefully, there is more info in this video and I just can't understand it. That's where my Swedish readers come in- I and many others- would really appreciate it if one of you can please translate this video for us. Thank you in advance.
UPDATE:
Maxie has translated the interview for us, which includes some information about Tiny's menu. Thank you Maxie!

First off they're just talking about the Henrik Tourist Bus.
Why do you like New York? -"It's so big and a it has a nice mix of people. The same night you have a game you can still live anonymously in the city, which is nice."
About Tiny's:" It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be a local restaurant/bar - nothing special - with good food and good atmosphere. I think the the favourite room is gonna be in the back with an open stove. The menu is not gonna have anything complicated. The hamburger has to taste good, since I'm a hamburger person! There's gonna be meatballs and soups. I don't spend too much time on this, just about one day a week."
This is the funny part - the person in the background says that Henrik is getting a ticket.
- "Oh, now I'm getting a ticket, hahaha. (And there's no way around it)."
Why a restaurant: "It's just for fun with a couple of friends. It's not like I'm gonna make money on it. It's too much of a risky business."

Post-Game Notes & Reaction
-Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves through regulation and overtime, and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout to improve to 9-8-1 overall with a 7-4-0 mark on the road. Lundqvist has now posted a career record of 31-21 with a .753 save percentage in the shootout.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself (in shootouts) because I want to help the team get that extra point,” said Lundqvist. “Last season showed that extra point can be huge. To come up with all three stops in the shootout felt really good for me.”
“I’m not saying 100% of my game is back,” Lundqvist said. “But every night is a step in the right direction. I feel like I had a good week last week, working on a few things. It also helps when the team is playing very solid in front of you. It gives me confidence, and I calmed down a little bit.”

Henrik on Changing His Technique
It was a reassuring performance for Lundqvist, who came away feeling like it was not just another "up" in what he called an "up-and-down season."
"I felt that I changed a little bit and it paid off," Lundqvist said. "This is how I used to play. You have your stance, and the timing was just so much better. I'm on my knees more instead of on the side. It felt good, feeling that right away, that the timing worked a lot better. I feel like I can continue playing my game."

Post-Game Notes & Reaction
-Henrik Lundqvist posted his third shutout of the season, and 27th of his career, with a 40-save performance to improve to 8-8-1 overall with a 6-4-0 mark on the road. It was his ninth career 40-save effort and first of the season, and his second career 40-save shutout, having stopped 45 shots through regulation and overtime in a 1-0 shootout loss to New Jersey on Jan. 12, 2010 at Madison Square Garden. Tonight’s shutout was his fourth career vs. Florida, including his first career shutout on Oct. 17, 2005 at MSG (4-0).
The shutout was the third this season for Lundqvist, who now has 27 in his career. It was the fourth time that Lundqvist has blanked the Panthers, who had a goal disallowed with 9:28 remaining in the third period because of a hand-pass on the play.
“It’s a big relief for me because I want to help the team get wins,” said Lundqvist. “When I am not winning or playing well it bothers me a lot. Winning and playing well makes me feel a lot better that’s for sure. This was a great road win for us.”
Sharp from the first drop of the puck on Friday, Lundqvist confidently stopped all 15 shots he faced in the first period, including four by Panthers defenseman Dennis Wideman. Not only was Lundqvist good in the opening stanza, he was a bit lucky, too, when Shawn Matthias slid a shot off the post behind the Rangers goaltender.
“You could tell in that first period, it just didn’t look like he was going to let one in,” said Tortorella. “He looked that solid.”
Building upon the solid foundation he established in the first period, Lundqvist stopped all nine shots the Panthers fired at him in the second period, giving him 24 saves through the game’s first 40 minutes. His biggest stop in that time came 4:40 into the second when he stretched out his legs as far as he could to rob Mike Santorelli with his left pad on 2-on-1 shorthanded rush.
While that save on Santorelli was a fantastic highlight-reel stop, what was most impressive about Lundqvist’s game on Friday was that he was so consistently well-positioned that he did not require many acrobatic saves.
“It was a fun game, a lot of action,” said Lundqvist. “You know, they’re a good team. They work hard. They might not have the biggest stars, but they are really a hard-working team. They really gave us a tough time all night.”

Lundqvist's Reaction to the Diving Call
To add insult to injury, Lundqvist was called for diving when he was bowled over after Malone was shoved into him by Marc Staal midway through the second period.
"I tried to talk to [the referee], and he just looked away," Lundqvist said. "I'm on one foot, trying to get up, and I get pushed back in the net and I get a diving call. . . . It's embarrassing.
"They hit me probably three times before that, an elbow in the head, a couple times they ran me over, so I didn't understand that call at all, but it is what it is."

Tortorella: "Lundqvist is our No.1 guy"
From Ranger Rants:
“It certainly hasn’t changed our thinking in what we have in Lundqvist,” said Tortorella, who met with Lundqvist on Sunday before the Rangers departed Minnesota on their ice-storm delayed trip home. “He is our No. 1 guy. It hasn’t turn into Marty play well so now we’re going to alternate the goalies back and forth. It’s not happening.”
Simply put, Tortorella said, Lundqvist will play Wednesday night at Tampa Bay as the Rangers open a three-game road trip but he wants to give Lundqvist extra time to work with goalie coach Benoit Allaire to fight through some inconsistencies that have cropped up in his game.
“It’s not a big deal,” Lundqvist said after staying on the ice after this morning’s skate for about an extra hour to work with Allaire. “I’ll get some practice and Marty played well the other night. I don’t want to make a big deal out of it. Today we worked on the little things. It’s just about repeating stuff. I don’t want to be selfish. It’s about the team. Marty played well the other night and won. I think I can be more consistent.”
Biron made 26 saves in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Minnesota. Tonight marks his seventh start and the second time he’s started consecutive games this season, though the first back-to-backs, Nov. 11 against Buffalo and Nov. 14 against Edmonton, were due to Lundqvist feeling under the weather. Tortorella said Lundqvist is not dealing with any health issues.
“I think my game is right there, I just need to be more consistent,” said Lundqvist, who’s made 15 starts. “It’s about making better decisions. It starts in your head. A week ago I had a good game in Pittsburgh (a 3-2 overtime victory last Monday). Your technique doesn’t go away like that. I just need to make better decisions. As a goalie, you make two bad decisions and it’s two goals. You almost have to be perfect to have a good game.”
“He went from Pittsburgh where we had no chance if he didn’t play the way he played to a couple of inconsistent efforts and that’s gone on a little bit this year and Hank understands that,” Tortorella added. “We had a great conversation yesterday.”
That said, starting Biron tonight was not the original plan and it’s a combination of Biron’s play and Lundqvist’s.
“It’s the way (Biron) played and it also gives us, with a team having problems finding ice to practice with our schedule, it gave Hank a day to practice during the morning skate, when he just went on the ice at Minnesota,” Tortorella said. “It gives him two more days. Hank has been inconsistent, he realizes that. It’s a good thing here that we have a backup that’s played well. It gives us a chance to give Henrik to more solid days of practice with Ben. Hank is playing in the Tampa game, Hank is our No. 1 goalie. This gives us a chance for him to regain some of his technique with Ben and it affords us that opportunity in the way Marty has played. So that’s a good thing.”
Pressed, Tortorella was very sensitive to make sure - by repeating the theme often - that Lundqvist is definitely the franchise goalie and Biron the capable backup.
“I don’t think we went into the season thinking we’re going to sit (Lundqvist) and not allow him to get into a flow, that’s not our plan,” Tortorella said. “This isn’t a 1, 1A. Hank is our No. 1 guy. He’s going to play the bulk of these games. It’s not a two-goalie system here. We haven’t gone into this part of the schedule that Hank isn’t going to play these games. It has to do with some of his play, too. It’s changed a little bit with the inconsistency in his game. But do I understand we need to get Hank on a roll? Absolutely. He has to be the backbone of this team if we’re going to get where we want to be.
“It could come down to that,” Tortorella said about ultimately playing Lundqvist through some inconsistent stretches. “I believe Hank is going to get his game together and this is going to be a non-subject. But right now, we have a guy that’s playing pretty well and it allows us to give Hank some practice time to get himself going. Hank’s our No. 1 guy, there’s no question there. We’re going to ride him.”
Tortorella also tired to be sensitive to the fact that Biron is playing well.
“(Lundqvist) is going to be fine and if we’re go anywhere it’s going to be with him,” Tortorella said. “I’m not running down Marty, either. Marty’s been an important part. It’s a good situation for Hank now and for Hank and the team later.”

Lundqvist Pulled For 1st Time This Season; Makes 13 Saves in Loss
From The Blueshirts Blog:
Lundqvist, who was pulled for the first time this season, offered explanations for each of the three goals, each time knowing that he should have made the saves.
Of Jones’ opener, on a rebound of a Chris Stewart shot 1:04 into the second, Lundqvist said, “I didn’t know where it went. I kind of figured out it went to my right. Like I said, I just need to be better.”
Of Kevin Porter’s deflection of the puck Matt Duchene threw to the net 6:17 later, Lundqvist said, “I went for it and he just got his stick right in front of my stick and deflected it over my stick. I thought I had it, but the guy came right before I was going to grab it with my stick, kind of hit it and it bounced over my stick.”
Of the goal that drove him from the game, Duchene’s drive from the top of the right circle at 12:27, Lundqvist said, “He went through (Michael Del Zotto’s) legs and I picked it up very late. That’s the way he scored. I tried to look around DZ, and instead he went through him. I didn’t pick it up until it was too late.”

Remember to Vote for the All-Star Game
I just want to remind everyone to continue voting for Henrik to get into the 2011 NHL All-Star game. If he makes it, (I'm confident he will) it would be his second All-Star game. But there's more- The New York Rangers Blog has started a campaign to write-in Sean Avery for the game. Sean Avery is probably Henrik's best friend on the Rangers. Imagine how fun it would be, not just for them-but for us too- to have both of them at the All-Star game. Come on, everyone let's make this happen. When you go to vote for Henrik, write-in Sean Avery as well! The more Rangers the better!

Photo of Henrik on The Martha Stewart Show
I've been searching for video of Henrik on The Martha Stewart Show, but as of now I have yet to find it anywhere. If anyone out there happens to come across it, please let me know so I can post it here for the people who have not seen the show yet.
Here's a quick summary:
Henrik said he was "terrified" to bake since he doesn't cook at all. A humorous moment occurred when Martha asked him if he had a food processor in his kitchen, he laughed and replied with "maybe". He also revealed some more details about the restaurant he is opening with Sean Avery. It's called Tiny's and it will be located in a small pink townhouse on West Broadway in Tribeca. The restaurant will be downstairs and a bar will be upstairs. He said it will open in a few months. They're currently in the process of finding a chef and other employees, and putting the menu together. He mentioned that he never really got into celebrating Thanksgiving. He also had two children from the Garden of Dreams Foundation with him, and he spoke about the work he does with them.

Post-Game Notes and Reaction
•Henrik Lundqvist recorded his first assist of the season, and sixth of his career, on Dubinsky’s power play goal, and stopped 17 of 20 shots in net. He is now 7-6-1 overall, including a 2-4-1 mark at home.
From Rangers Report:
Henrik Lundqvist:
On the Recchi goal:
“It was just a terrible goal.
“I think the guys played really well. I don’t know what else we could do. I just have to stop the third one there and it’s a different game in the end. But we have to keep going. It’s a battle every night and if we can play like this we’re going to have a lot of good games and a lot of points as well.
“I just tried to squeeze my elbow, usually it stops here (at) my elbow and my pants, but somehow it just squeezed through. I was very surprised. It’s obviously a tough goal to give up early in the period, trailing by a goal. It’d definitely something I want to take back, but you can’t, so you accept it and move on.”

Henrik Lundqvist Q&A at Hockey Monkey Video
Video taken by coasterkid303545
One interesting thing that Henrik said during this interview is that in the future he might start a t-shirt line featuring his new crown logo. I would love for this to happen, as would many other fans. Hopefully this idea will come into fruition soon. I can see it being very popular, just like Sean Avery's clothing line is.
Lundqvist Sells Old Apartment for $1.68 Million
New York Ranger Henrik Lundqvist has capped off his 30-game winning streak with yet another victory, selling his luxury bachelor pad for a respectable $1.68 million.
Mr. Lundqvist sold the 20th-floor duplex in The Bromley at 225 West 83rd Street for $1.75 million, which is exactly what he listed it for in the spring with the Modlin Group's Adam Modlin. Not bad considering the spring we had. The place was listed March 5, and an offer was made just a couple of weeks later, on March 24, according to the buyers' broker, Anna Kahn of Halstead. They hit a slight glitch signing the contract as Mr. Lundqvist was tied up thwarting pucks from fiesty Canadians in the Olympic finals.
The buyers are Philip and Amy Cushmaro, who live in New Jersey but were looking for a pied-a-terre. Mr. Cushmaro worked for many years as the head of IT for Credit Suisse First Boston. The best feature of all might be a one-way mirror in the bathroom, offering sunset views without the exposure.
The 1,300-square-foot duplex was, many said, just big enough for the burly Swede. So when Mr. Lundqvist then dropped $3.97 million in 2008 on a three-bedroom duplex penthouse at 310 West 52nd Street, it fueled speculation he would finally wed long-time squeeze Therese Andersson. Now with his old place finally off the market, the question remains, is Mr. Lundqvist as well?

"I'd like to see the penalty record the last five years in Pittsburgh," said an annoyed Lundqvist, who was brilliant throughout the match. "We're shorthanded so many times in Pittsburgh and it's definitely not our fault."

Post-Game Notes and Reaction
* Henrik Lundqvist stopped 37 shots to improve to 7-5-1 overall, including a 5-2-0 mark on the road this season. He has stopped 30 or more shots in nine of his 13 appearances this season and is now 6-3-0 in his last nine starts, registering a 2.12 goals against average, .926 save percentage and two shutouts over the span.
From Ranger Rants:
Henrik Lundqvist is not the type of player to whine or call out referees on a regular basis. But the goalie was steamed tonight after the Penguins’ got six power plays to the Rangers’ zone. So after Matt Cooke scored to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead at 18:07, Lundqvist threw his stick on purpose just so referees Kyle Rehman and Dan O’Halloran knew what he thought about their work.
Little did Lundqvist think Marc Staal would tie the game on a shorthanded goal 27 seconds later.
“You probably saw my reaction,” said Lundqvist, admitting he temporarily lost his focus after playing a brilliant game as the Penguins took the lead with goals 38 seconds left. “I was so frustrated with how the game was called today.”
Lundqvist was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct for slamming his stick.
"I'm still angry -- even though we scored," said Lundqvist, referring in part to the fact the Penguins were given three third-period power plays and the Rangers didn't have any in the game. "But it's hockey. Things happened so fast, everything changed. I've got to stay cooler, obviously, but it felt like they got another chance after chance to get back in the game. I felt like it wasn't fair, but the game is over and you just have to deal with it."
http://rangers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=543638&navid=DL|NYR|home
Lundqvist, who is perhaps the calmest player in the N.H.L., blew up in anger and was given an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty. With only 1:53 remaining and skating a man down, the Rangers tied it when Marc Staal broke in on a setup from Dubinsky to knot the match.
“I was upset, and so tired, I didn’t know what to think,” Lundqvist said. “I’m exhausted — it was a really intense game for me. I screamed at them. It just felt like they had chance after chance to come back in this game. It was very frustrating.
“We worked so hard in the last 30 minutes to keep it a 1-0 game, and they got power play after power play. And finally they score; I lost my cool.”

Lundqvist to Debut Special Classic Mask on Wednesday
In celebration of the 85th season the New York Rangers will use a special heritage jersey in selected games the season 2010-2011, and of course the Rangers super star keeper Henrik Lundqvist will wear a special mask for these occasions. Henrik and I talked and came up with a plan on how to create this design.
The mask is painted in total sync with the unique game jersey in blue, red and beige. Obviously the Statue of Liberty just as usual shows up on one side, as well as the for Henrik's masks so characteristic bolts. The rest of the mask is painted in total harmony with the jersey, with very much detail work and 3-D effects. DAVEART Holographix FX details make the design completely unique and worthy the King of Manhattan.

Lundqvist & Giacomin Have a Special Bond
"It's definitely a different game now," Lundqvist said. "What's more fun is just to hear old stories -- how they traveled, how they approached things and the little playoff stories they had, but in the end it all comes down to where you talk about respect and honor and the good things about this organization, and they're so good at keeping it. Having a night like tonight really shows it."
Lundqvist has a better understanding than most about that tradition. As a clear fan favorite, he is seen by many in a line of Ranger goalies that includes Giacomin and Mike Richter, who both have their numbers hanging from the Garden rafters.
Being a goaltender is among the most pressurized positions in all of sports, and being one in a city like New York only adds to the weight each Ranger carries on his back when he mans the crease. Few are the number that can understand what Lundqvist experiences when he takes the ice.
"Henrik Lundqvist and I feel like we're old friends," said Giacomin, who played goalie for New York for 11 seasons. "I've only met him three or four times, but every time I see him, he glows and I glow. It's a special bond.
"When I put that uniform on, I stepped on the old Madison Square Garden on 49th street, I stepped on that ice my rookie day, and I was in heaven. This is what I try to tell these players now. When you put that uniform on, you've made it. Now, it was hard to make it, but it's even harder to stay on with a team."

Lundqvist Out Again
From Ranger Rants:
“I’m trying to get back to 100 percent,” said Lundqvist, who’s dealing with his headaches and congestion mainly through fluids and taking vitamins. “I don’t feel great but everyday I feel a little bit better. I felt pretty good in practice but the question is should I go out and battle if I’m not 100 percent or let Marty go in and play. I can’t be selfish, I don’t want to put the team at risk.
“Right now, I just want to feel sharp,” added Lundqvist, saying the danger of playing when he’s not 100 percent is falling into a 3-0 hole and then wondering if he’d been selfish to ask to play.
Lundqvist was well enough to participate in last night’s third jersey unveiling and free public skate at Rockefeller Center and said he always enjoys talking to the Rangers’ alumni such as Gilles Villemure and Eddie Giacomin.
He also had a funny line when asked about the new All-Star format, in which captains are chosen and they then choose up the squads. Lundqvist said he had to be nice to the captain that picked him.
“I’ll make sure to send a really nice gift to the captain,” Lundqvist said. “I’ll find out who it is and send a basket.”
Lundqvist, Marc Staal and Marian Gaborik are among the 100 players on the All-Star ballot.
Lundqvist & Avery Visit "Saturday Night Live" Rehearsal
New York Ranger stars Sean Avery and Henrik Lundqvist became distracted by curvy Scarlett Johansson while visiting the set of "Saturday Night Live." Johansson was rehearsing for last night's co-hosting gig and warming up with funnygal Kristen Wiig. "Both players did a double take at Scarlett," said a source. The Rangers regained their focus enough to give Kenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan a sneak peek at the new jerseys the team will begin wearing on the ice Wednesday.

Henrik Lundqvist Display at the NHL Store
Today I went to the NHL store with the intention of purchasing the Rangers new heritage jersey. Unfortunately, they are only selling the jerseys without the 85th anniversary patch. I passed on those. I'll have to get mine at the Garden instead. I proceeded to purchase a few shirts and took these pictures of Henrik:
FYI: The NHL store is selling Lundqvist heritage jerseys, they just don't have the patch. They also have Lundqvist heritage t-shirts that do have the patch.

Post-Game Reaction
From Rangers Report:
Henrik Lundqvist:
“You want to win. Obviously we did a lot of good things, but it comes down to winning. It’s hard to be satisfied even though we did a lot of good things and we managed to keep their top players away from their big chances. But they’re good. They don’t need much. They play pretty solid and waited for their chances in the second and third. I think in the first they were pretty strong, but after that I think we took over.
“We come up short again at home and it’s never fun. We definitely want to start winning here and feel good. Even though we played pretty well, you still want to win. That’s what it comes down to.”
On there being no common thread at home, for example, not just slow starts as last year.
“No. We’re right in it. We’re right there and we do a lot of good things. You just need to find a way to win. You know, sometimes on the road we don’t play as well but we still find a way to win. That’s what we have to do at home. It doesn’t have to be pretty or perfect. But we definitely need to find ways to get that go-ahead goal and win it.
“It’s important moving forward that we start winning at home, absolutely.”

My New York: Henrik Lundqvist ; Lundqvist Opening Tribeca Restaurant With Avery
With his gorgeous smile and sparkly blue eyes, Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist, 28, can stop hearts as easily as he does speeding pucks. But the native Swede — who’s in his sixth season with the Blueshirts — is more than just a pretty face. The Upper West Side resident is a dapper dandy with an eye for style, a guitar player and a lover of comfort food. “I exercise, but when it comes to food, I’m not the most healthy guy,” Lundqvist admits. To wit, the hockey hunk loves to talk about calorie-laden spots in the Big Apple — and how he burns it all off (hopefully sans shirt). This is his New York.
1 Hill Stone Restaurant,
378 Park Avenue South, at 27th Street
“I go there for the barbecue pork ribs. I’ve been there probably 20 times, and I get the same thing every time. They’re unbelievable. You can eat it with a fork and knife because they’re so tender.”
2 La Esquina,
106 Kenmare St., between Cleveland and Lafayette streets
“It has a great atmosphere and I love the corn there. I don’t know what they put on it, but it’s so good.”
3 Lucky’s Famous Burgers,
370 W. 52nd St., at Ninth Avenue
“I love burgers, and this place has the best one on Earth. I like mine well-done with whatever cheese they use, and most important, the Lucky’s sauce on the top.”
4 Eatery,
798 Ninth Ave., at West 53rd Street
“It’s a great brunch place. I love the goat cheese omelet. I pretty much get it all of the time, though I’ve had their banana chocolate, cream cheese-stuffed French toast (left). It’s not the healthiest thing you can eat, but it’s delicious.”
5 Reiss,
387 W. Broadway, between Broome and Spring streets
“This was a great New York find for me. I just like their style. They have good suits, and I just bought three ties from there.”
6 Madison Square Garden
“It’s exciting just to go there, and even more exciting to play there. My favorite memory was the first couple of games I played there. When I got my first NHL win (in October 2005 against the Devils), it was very special. Also, when I saw Springsteen there. I’ve seen him a bunch of times, but to see him in the Garden was something else.”
7 Tiny’s,
135 West Broadway, between Thomas and Duane streets
“It’s a restaurant that [teammate] Sean Avery and I are working on in TriBeCa with some other partners. [It’s not open yet,] but it will be one my favorites. I’m looking forward to going there after games. The menu is going to be high-end home cooking and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
8 Ultra Sound,
251 W. 30th St., between Seventh and Eighth avenues
“It’s right across the street from the Garden, and they have a bunch of rooms you can rent for hours. It’s like a rehearsal studio, so you go there and jam. It’s a great place when you want to play some rock with your friends. The last person I played with is [Max Weinberg’s son] Jay Weinberg. He’s unbelievable. He played for Bruce [Springsteen] last summer, and he’s only like 19 or 20.”

Lundqvist Shuts Out Devils; Post-Game Notes & Reaction
*Lundqvist turned aside all 33 shots he faced to post his second shutout of the season and 26th of his career, and improve to 6-4-1 overall. He has stopped 30 or more shots in eight of his 11 appearances this season and is now 5-2-0 in his last seven starts, registering a 1.87 goals against average, .937 save percentage and two shutouts over the span. Lundqvist, who has posted a record of 4-2-1 in seven road games, has posted both of his shutouts this season away from MSG. The Rangers’ goaltender improved his career record vs. New Jersey to 20-7-5 with a 1.83 goals against average, .936 save percentage and five shutouts in 32 regular season appearances.
From Ranger Rants:
Henrik Lundqvist earned his second shutout of the season and the 26th of his career. He said getting a lead on the Devils is crucial because of their style of play. He also loves beating the Devils, regardless of who’s wearing the red and black uniform.
“In the second period they had some pressure on us,” Lundqvist said. “I think we did a good job of staying in the middle and pushing them to the outside. Against the Devils, if you can get the lead, it’s usually a big help. They usually stay back and wait for mistakes. If you get a lead, they have to open up.
“I don’t think it was an easy win, even though you look at their record and see they’re a struggling team. Beating the Devils is always a good feeling.”

Lundqvist Easy Choice To Start Vs. Devils
By Jim Cerny
Although the Rangers are playing a difficult set of divisional back-to-back games on the road -- starting Thursday night in Philadelphia and concluding tonight in New Jersey -- head coach John Tortorella said it was never even a consideration in his mind that Henrik Lundqvist would not be the starting goaltender tonight vs. the Devils.
“I’m playing Hank against New Jersey,” said Tortorella at the morning skate Friday. “I don’t care if it’s four games in four nights, Hank’s playing against Jersey.”
Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who beat the Devils on Oct. 24 at MSG, has won 19 of his 31 career decisions against New Jersey and has taken five of the other 12 career decisions to overtime. The reason for Tortorella’s certainty is based in Lundqvist’s terrific career numbers against the Devils. In 31 games vs. New Jersey, Lundqvist is 19-7-5 with a sterling 1.89 goals-against average and .934 save percentage. He also has notched four of his 25 career shutouts against the Devils.
Earlier this season, Lundqvist turned in a 27-save effort when the Rangers bested the Devils 3-1 at Madison Square Garden back on Oct. 24.
“I enjoy playing the Devils, it’s a great rivalry for us,” said Lundqvist. “I think they are always really intense, well-played games, and as a goaltender it’s easy to be ready for them.”
Usually a Rangers-Devils match-up creates a duel between Lundqvist and Martin Brodeur, two of the top goalies in the league. However tonight Brodeur will be unable to play due to a sore elbow -- an injury suffered in Wednesday’s victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
That means Lundqvist will instead face fellow Swedish netminder Johan Hedberg.
“It’s always a little special to play against Swedes,” said Lundqvist. “And as for the Devils, their record is not great, but we all know that they will play hard.
The Rangers enter play tonight with a 6-5-1 record, good for 13 points, seventh overall in the Eastern Conference. The struggling Devils are last in the East with a 4-9-1 mark and nine points.

Post-Game Reaction
From Ranger Rants:
Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist
Q: On Nikolay Zherdev’s goal…
“It was an unfortunate bounce. Well, I made the block. Then, it hit my stick. Then, I think it hit my chest and went straight up and then I kind of lost it. Somehow it just went over my shoulder. It’s bad luck but at the same time I need to be more determined to just push the puck back in the corner instead of just make a block. I think out of ten times, there’s no way that it can happen again.”
Q: Is it tough to be in a situation where you get the first goal, have the lead, and have them come back with four straight?
“Yeah. The way they scored, it didn’t feel like they had to work that hard to get them. I think we played pretty well. Obviously, the third one I had to have. Then, we had a couple breakdowns. Overall, I think these guys played a good game. Next time, we could play better.”
Q: When you say they didn’t have to work hard, isn’t that the worst feeling in the world when the team throws it out there and boom, it’s in there?“
“Well, a goal is a goal. Obviously, it’s tough when you know you have to stop that puck. It was just bad luck there on that bounce. It was weird. It hit me twice, I think, before it rolled over my shoulder. It is what it is.”
Q: What do you think they did tonight or you guys didn’t do enough of tonight, versus the last couple of games, to take away what you guys have been doing well?
“Well, I think we played a pretty good game. It’s just, they scored a couple goals here and they didn’t really have to work that hard. You know, then they got that 3-1 lead and kind of killed the momentum that we had. But, up until then I think we played pretty well. We just have to move on and try to forget about this.”

Henrik Lundqvist's Swedish Recommendations
"Most of my time that I spend in Sweden during the summer, I spend on the west coast with it’s small beautiful fish harbors. My favorite spot is an island outside Gothenburg called Käringön, it’s a beautiful little island that you can only reach by boat. You can go there by your own boat or the public ferry, it takes 15 minutes. There are only about 100 people living on the island all year around. One of the best things with the island is that there are no cars, and it has a very relaxed and calm atmosphere. When you arrive to the island you just want to run into the ocean and take a quick dip before dinner at Petterson’s restaurant; the perfect Swedish summer day. I brought my friends from New York to Käringön last summer, a bigger contrast from our lives in the city compared to the west coast in Sweden is impossible to get. Käringön is a perfect place for families with kids and dogs, you never loose them because the island is too small, and you can walk around the whole island during an hour. Enjoy!"
