Henrik Lundqvist in Men's Health Magazine

Given that he's often buried beneath a uniform, mask, and pads, you wouldn't necessarily know Henrik Lundqvist as a clotheshorse. But catch him off the ice and he's liable to be wearing fitted black jeans, a camel blazer, and tan suede shoes. "Teammates will ask me where I'm going," says last year's winner of the Vezina Trophy, an honor distinguishing him as the NHL's best goaltender. "I'm not going anywhere. This is the way I dress."

To pass the time in an off-season extended by the NHL lockout, Lundqvist plays tennis, working many of the same muscles he uses in hockey—and he wears sleek clothes he's not embarrassed to walk home in afterward. "Just because they're going to the gym, a lot of guys wear old T-shirts that look like they've been lying in the closet for 15 years," Lundqvist says. That's not him. "My workout clothes have to work."

Flexible fabrics and wicking properties help him keep up with his game. And as for the look, Lundqvist favors simple designs and minimal branding. "You can mix in color every once in a while, but I like to keep it clean." Go on, upgrade your gym clothes: Consider it a subtle sartorial power play.

Lundqvist frustrated that the NHL will not start

As always, a translation of this interview would be welcomed. It's frustrating enough that there's no hockey, but in addition to that the only coverage we're getting of Henrik is in Swedish.

Henrik Lundqvist Wrote an Article For The NY Post

Lockout leaves Rangers goalie throne for loss

By Henrik Lundqvist

Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist spent a couple of days in New York this week before returning home to Gothenburg, Sweden, where he has spent the NHL lockout.

Before catching his flight yesterday, The King expressed his thoughts and emotions to the Post’s Larry Brooks.

I HAVE to admit, I was so excited on Tuesday when I walked past the Garden and got my first look at it in a long, long time.

So many different thoughts went through my head. I was thinking about how I missed being there, how frustrating it’s been not to be able to play and be with my teammates and in front of our fans.

Everything I was thinking came back to the lockout. That’s how it is every day with almost everything. Everything comes back to the lockout. It just makes me upset. The more I think about it, the more upset I am.

I can’t even remember the last time I’ve been away from hockey as long as I have been now. It feels so strange. Everything is off. Nothing is the way it’s supposed to be. It’s hard to imagine that it’s almost Christmas but the season hasn’t even started yet.

I miss it so much. I miss the game. I miss the excitement. I miss the challenge of pushing myself every day. I feed off competing. I feed off the energy.

I’ve tried to be positive. I have to admit that I never thought we would be out this long. I’ve never gone through anything like this before. The first couple of weeks were weird but then when I realized we might be out for a long time, I started to freak out a little bit. It’s hard to explain.

You feed off the game. It’s your life. I never imagined it would be this difficult for me not to play and how much I would miss it. I guess you take it for granted that you will always play.

It’s really hard for a lot of people to understand this. I don’t expect people to understand. Sometimes it’s hard for us to understand.

It was good at first to be able to go home with [my wife] Therese and have the chance for [my five-month old daughter] Charlise to say hi for the first time to everyone in our family and our friends. That’s the only good thing about this. But as much as Therese and I enjoy home, we miss New York. That’s where we should be now.

Coming back a couple of weeks ago and playing in the charity game at Atlantic City was the best I have felt in a long time. I had no idea what to expect, but it felt so good to be out there playing a game.

Of course it wasn’t just playing a game, it was the reason we were playing — to help raise money for the recovery from Hurricane Sandy — that also made it special. It’s so inspiring to see how everyone works so hard — and I don’t mean the hockey players — to help other people in need.

It was a great night. I loved every minute of it.

When I went past the Garden I thought about the excitement our fans bring that makes it so special. I know the fans are really upset, and they have a right to be. They deserve better. I really mean that. They are so loyal. They spend so much money for tickets and merchandise and to be there to support the team.

The fans deserve better. The game of hockey deserves better. I can’t even express how much I hope we’re back playing very, very soon.

I can’t wait to be in a Rangers uniform again.

Henrik Lundqvist Bois Foundation Interview

UNEXPECTED ISSUES. Henrik Lundqvist took place in the hot seat during the interview with the foundation Bois. And the star goalie got questions he never faced before. "It was something different than what I'm used to," he says. Full interview with Henrik Lundqvist can be found in the foundation Bois magazine that comes out around Christmas.
Here, "Henke" thoroughly grilled

3 QUESTIONS TO HENKE DURING THE INTERVIEW
1 You do commercials for shampoo, you have lost your own dandruff?
- I do not think I've had dandruff. It is more about trying to prevent.
2 Have lunch box with you to work?
- No. We have a restaurant at the training ground, so it is not necessary.
3 Will Joel drive your Lamborghini?
- He rarely has time to come and visit in New York, so it has not been an issue. But of course he can.

THIS IS BASIS BOIS
A regular sports, but especially for boys and girls with intellectual disabilities. Everyone can participate, regardless of level of disability or expertise.
The foundation Bois has over 400 members, of which about 260 are active athletes. Sports are football and hockey. They hold to the old regimental area Kviberg in northeastern Gothenburg. The website is www.grundenbois.com

GOTHENBURG. When Henrik Lundqvist came to the foundation Bois, he questions he never met before.
In over an hour grill was he by Joakim Andersson in the hot seat. He was among other answer if he sleeps on a cot at the home of Joel and his lunchbox with him to work.
- It was something completely different than what I'm used to, says super goalkeeper. But really fun.

The world's best hockey goalie in place at home in Gothenburg is a byte basis Bois did not want to miss. An obvious choice to put in the hot seat in the association's premises in Kviberg.
Joakim Andersson, who in this way met several celebrities for interviews to the association's Journal "magazine", had as usual prepared for lots of questions and photographer Daniel Jeppsson was ready with the camera.
Henrik Lundqvist was given coffee and lussekatt while the questions rattled.
- I was prepared for a broad set of issues, saying "Henke". But I was still surprised by some of them.
Like when Joakim, in red Frölunda-shirt, asked if he was afraid of being bitten by a shark in the butt when he was bathing in the sea at home in the U.S. or if he used to have with lunch box to work.
- I want to ask questions that no other place that you can not see in any other magazine, says Joakim, who except that he plays football and is shooting iron reporter also is a director and officer of the foundation Bois.

"Glad he set up"
You've interviewed a lot of celebrities, how was it to put questions to Henrik Lundqvist compared to the others?
- Everyone I've met is beautiful in its own way, "Henke" Also, he answers. It was great that he stood up, he's not just a good hockey goalie and a major icon of Gothenburg.
The goalkeeper himself was also pleased with the meeting.
- It is uplifting to see people who are passionate about so for both the sport and what they are doing. And I mean not just the players but everyone around, he says. Additionally, all well organized.

Have you encountered anything like this in North America?
- I have met many enthusiasts in the U.S., but nothing like the foundation Bois responds Lundqvist.
You got a question if you follow the foundation Bois on Twitter or Facebook. How will it be?
- Previously, I have not. But now I begin to check every now and then, it'll be fun to follow them, says Henrik Lundqvist.

This sounds like it's going to be a really fun and interesting interview to read. Can someone in Sweden buy me a copy of this magazine when it comes out? I'd be very grateful. I can pay you via PayPal. If not, if someone finds a copy of this magazine, I'd appreciate it if you can summarize the interview for us. I ask because I'm not sure if it's going to be posted online. Thanks in advance.

Henrik Lundqvist is Depressed & Annoyed; Thinks NHL Should Move Teams to Canada

The anxiety-provoking process to produce a new collective agreement continues to plague the world of hockey. We are thrown between hope and despair.

At this writing, the trade leader Donald Fehr just given a fairly positive report to the media, which he summed it up with a full agreement on the dollars is reached, but there remains some details of the contract issues.

However, we have not heard the NHL's side of the story - and we know from experience that the two parties have a tendency to speak different languages.

But Fehrs message was still surprisingly positive!

UPDATED: What a drama! And what a turnaround! Unfortunately, against the pitch-black negative way ...

Shortly after Fehr finished his press conference, he returned to the podium - and declared that the NHL had rejected the union's bid outright. Via a message on the answering machine!

The message from the NHL to the players was that no new appointments are needed at present.

Curtain!

I may ask to come back on Friday with more updates. Now I close my eyes and dream me away from all that lockout devices. END OF UPDATE.

I have not kept up with fully in the day's events, because I took the car down to Gothenburg to interview Henrik Lundqvist. The result will be a "cover story" to Pro Hockey's March issue, the idea, but we talked a lot about the daily fresh lockout news.

So, here comes a new Q & A with an NHL star if the labor dispute:

The door to the top division was shut for you locked-out NHL players - have you considered on sabbatical for the NHL season is canceled completely?
"The thought has crossed my mind. The body has flaws here and there, but I feel better mentally to play. I know you it's a big part of my life is missing. I have become more and more depressed the longer the lockout going on. I need something that drives me. And then it's positive to be able to spend more time with family and friends. "

What about the negotiations between your union and the league so far?
"The most frustrating thing is that we have not had anyone to negotiate with. We have given more and more and more, but there has been no negotiation, until now really. The more I thought about it, the more annoyed I have become, but I try to let it go because it's out of my control right now. "

PR-wise and from the fans' point of view, both sides found it difficult to build understanding of its line in this conflict. Can you ask for people to understand what you are fighting for?
"I do not expect people to understand. There is so much money involved. If you are not in the turn itself is quite difficult to grasp. "

"The sport has been miserable lockout, you can not get away from. And I think it's embarrassing for all concerned that we have not agreed previously. Really lousy. We have had such a strong league in recent years, it has grown seven percent each year, so the last seven years, it has grown by nearly 50 percent. Then it's more about finding a system that works for the entire league. "

"Then there's some teams that have been heavily, and then maybe you need to look at the market. There has been talk of how many years any time that you might be moving some teams, but it never happens. There are other cities that are very eager to get an NHL team, the Toronto area, Ontario area, which I think could be a boost for the league. "

And therefore you press hard on the "revenue-sharing" (revenue sharing)?
"We have to be accountable for the decisions (for the league lead) takes. Sure, we realized that we had to reduce our share, even though the league has progressed, but somewhere you have to find a balance. And it felt like their first bid was neither honest or right, but at the same time so it's business. "

Do you think the NHL's first bid delayed the process? For you were the cursed when you saw it and many emotions from 2005 was torn up right away.
"It set the tone for this entire hearing. We got to know where they were and that we were not even close to each other on the question of what was an okay deal. It is not primarily that we should have more, but it is about finding a good system that works in the future, so we are not here for four or five years with the same thing. Baseball has not had a conflict in a long time. They found a system that works. All other sports (big leagues in North America) is the conflict and all have had lockouts. The question is - what makes baseball the right and what do the other wrong? "

"I think it's really important that we find a system that we do not end up here again. This lockout has been hard - for both fans and sponsors and people who work near the gate. And the players, too. "

What do you think is this foundation to stand on in order to avoid future conflicts lockout?
"I'm the wrong person to sit here and say what is right and wrong. But of course we can not have a lot of clubs that go back. At last the deal was the rich richer and the poor poorer. But I have no good answer to that. "

"It just feels so unnecessary with this breaker. We have lost the respect and the goa feeling we had with the fans. I understand that people are annoyed. "

How much of the damage could be repaired if it gets quick reconciliation and the season will start, say at Christmas?
"It is extremely important that we play this season, no doubt about it. And the most important part're from Christmas onwards. Soccer ends, baseball is over, so we get the more space in the media. That's when the owners earn the most money and it generated the most interest. But then, it remains to see how hard the hit is when it comes to audience and sponsors. "
